Unelectable Candidates

i love Herman Cain.  He is the perfect caricature of the “anyone can grow up to be president” nonsense that the Republicans love to advance, so they can pretend that the race for the White House it meritocratic.  Dont be fooled.

In the last few days Cain has managed to offend both vegetarians and the intelligence of anyone who cares about US foreign policy.  One would think while the topic was pizza’s, the pizza company former CEO would be on safe ground.  Again you would be wrong.  Cain’s quote “A manly man don’t want it piled high with vegetables! He would call that a sissy pizza.” Is just politically stupid, you will not convince many people to vote for you by advocating a heavily meat laden  pizza.  And you will alienate both vegetarians and people who think pizza toppings have little to do with masculinity (which turns out the be a large group).  He is clearly winging it, he is having fun as a candidate.  This makes him entertaining, but not a real contender.

In the 2000 presidential elections one of my favorite political cartoons was about George W. Bush’s international experience.  It showed an International House of Pancakes.  Similarly, Cain was asked about Obama’s actions around Libya.  At first Cain asked the interviewer basically for hints about Obama’s position. “President Obama supported the uprising, correct?” You really think when it comes to the national debates, Obama is going to look bad next to this guy?  The rest of his answer was even more pathetic:

“President Obama called for the removal of Qaddafi – just want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing before I say yes I agree, or no I didn’t agree. I do not agree with the way he handled it for the following reason – nope, that’s a different one.”

Cain then pauses for about five seconds.

“I gotta go back and see – um, I got all this stuff twirling around in my head,” he says. “Specifically, what are you asking me. Did I agree or not disagree with Obama?”

i love that Herman Cain continues to dominate the Republican political contributions race.  Because this money is wasted.

His mock apology to Nancy Pelosi for calling her a princess, is exactly the thing that will turn undecided women voters away from him.  And while this may excite the red meat Tea Party crowd, Cain already had most of them – the undecided middle is where these campaigns are won, a turf Obama is an expert in.  Obama is charming and has a telegenic and popular wife.  Cain is a sexist, narcissist who has paid multiple settlements for sexual misconduct.    Even Forbes Magazine (which calls itself “the capitalist tool”) is trashing his behavior.

The media is pretending this is an interesting race today, because of polls like below:

Anyone want to bet that in a month this 8 point lead will be doubled?

The Republican race is seeming more and more like a farce every day. I find it all so hilarious. Romney seems like the only viable candidate who’s not a complete clown at this point, but Republicans hate him for some reason. Do you really think Cain will get the nomination? I just can’t see it being anybody other than Romney. But I have been following this race more than others in the past, for its sheer entertainment value. Ah, American politics. So farcical.
